Chocolate Tasting Competition Results

In collaboration with The Chiltern Centre we bring you the feedback and results of our chocolate tasting panel and reveal the winning chocolate!

Each of our five panellists were given four new chocolates to judge:

  • Orange & Passion Fruit, an orange and passion fruit caramel in a dark chocolate shell.
  • Malted Milk, a malted milk chocolate ganache topped with crushed malted milk biscuits.
  • Coffee & Hazelnut Meltaway, freshly ground coffee and hazelnut meltaway in a caramelised blonde chocolate shell.
  • Cherry Coconut, a coconut ganache with a sour cherry centre in a dark chocolate shell, topped with desiccated coconut.

Each Chocolate Taster had to give marks on the Look, Intensity of Flavour, Texture/Mouth Feel, Overall and give Comments some of which are below:

Orange & Passionfruit Caramel

“My favourite. I love the contrast of texture. The orange and passion fruit makes the caramel not too sweet and not too bitter. My Mum said this one makes my eyes sparkle.” – Callie

“We all said ‘WOW’ when we opened the box! Colours are amazing and the chocolate clashes in a fun way with the paper. Very shiny which makes the quality look really good.” – Amira

"Dramatically different in appearance, original in flavour, intense fruit plus caramel and excellent chocolate." - Valerie

Malted Milk

“I loved the malt flavour in it, but it just wasn’t as powerful as the Orange & Passion Fruit but if it was on sale I would buy it.”- Aurelia

“It is silky, rich and perfectly smooth. I love when you bite it's so creamy. I think it would be nice with a bit of crunch in the middle. Dreamy." - Callie

Coffee & Hazelnut Meltaway

“Tastes of pure coffee and hazelnuts, leaving a strong after affect, which lasts 5-10 mins. Strong and sharp which is also extremely tangy.”Isabelle

“Inner meltaway texture really interesting, enjoyed praline crunch. Outer chocolate could be more “snappy” – we thought dark chocolate with white stripes could be better for flavour and texture! - Amira

Cherry Coconut

“Loved the cherry but it might be better without the desiccated coconut.” - Valerie

“I did not like them at all because I do not think the coconut mixes well with the cherry as the coconut overpowers the cherry.” – Aurelia

"Starts off tasting sweet, tangy, goey and smooth but gets stronger and more bitter, leaving a dark coconut after affect." - Isabelle
